Göreme
Göreme is the heart of Cappadocia, famous for its fairy chimneys, cave hotels, and the UNESCO-listed Open Air Museum. This ancient town offers breathtaking landscapes, rock-cut churches with Byzantine frescoes, and serves as the primary launch site for hot air balloon rides.
History
Göreme has been inhabited since the Roman period. Early Christians carved churches and monasteries into the soft volcanic rock to escape persecution. The area became a major monastic center between the 4th and 13th centuries.
Best Time to Visit
April to June and September to November offer the best weather for outdoor activities and balloon rides.
How to Get There
Fly to Nevşehir Kapadokya Airport (NAV) or Kayseri Airport (ASR). Göreme is 40 km from Nevşehir and 75 km from Kayseri.
