Çavuşin is a small village with one of the oldest churches in Cappadocia. The old village, carved into a cliff face, was abandoned in the 1960s but remains a fascinating open-air museum of rock-cut dwellings.
History
The Church of St. John the Baptist (5th century) is one of the earliest churches in the region. The village was an important stop on the Silk Road.
Best Time to Visit
Morning for photography, when the old village is beautifully lit.
