Kaymaklı Underground City is the widest underground settlement in Cappadocia. While not as deep as Derinkuyu, it spreads over a larger area with complex tunnel systems connecting homes, storage areas, and communal spaces.
History
Connected to Derinkuyu by a 9 km underground tunnel. The city was continuously used until the 1923 population exchange between Greece and Turkey.
Best Time to Visit
Morning visits recommended to avoid afternoon tour groups.
How to Get There
20 km south of Göreme. Often combined with Derinkuyu in day tours.
