The widest underground city in Cappadocia, spreading over a large area with complex tunnel systems. Features 4 open floors (of 8 total) with living quarters, churches, storage areas, and wine presses.
Historical Significance
Connected to Derinkuyu by a 9 km underground tunnel (not open to public). Used continuously until 1923 when Greek Orthodox inhabitants left during the population exchange.
Visiting Tips
Easier to navigate than Derinkuyu with wider passages. Visit in the morning to beat the tour buses. Combine with Derinkuyu for a complete underground city experience.
