Witness the sema, the 800-year-old Mevlevi ritual of prayer through spinning, performed in the stone hall of a Seljuk caravanserai near Avanos. This is a religious ceremony rather than a show: an hour of live Sufi music, chanted prayer, and the hypnotic whirling of the dervishes, followed by a serving of sherbet. Photography is permitted only in the final minutes.
